PNP/NHA led violent demolition of 9,000 homes in North Triangle

Police and the National Housing Authority (NHA) led the violent demolition of 9,000 households today, September 23 at San Roque, North Triangle to make way for commercial business.The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) was also there to assist in the demolition.  read more »

AMARC Calls Upon the Philippines Government to Stop Killings of Journalists and Broadcasters

The World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters-Asia Pacific (AMARC-AP) condemns the recent killings of three more journalists last week, two of whom were fellow broadcasters, in the Philippines. The deaths of Desiderio Camangyan of Sunrise FM (Davao) last June 14, Joselito Agustin of DzJC Aksyon Radyo (Ilocos Norte) last June 16, and Nestor Bedolido of Kastigado Newspaper (Digos City) last June 20 bring the number of journalists killed under the outgoing Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo regime to 104.

Celebrating Ka Bel's life, struggles, and legacy

We had to break an important meeting to attend the launch of Ina Alleco R Silverio’s first book Ka Bel: The Life and Struggles of Crispin Beltran at the Bantayog ng mga Bayani last June 4. I drove like a man possessed just to be in time and I was, with plenty to spare. It took me one and half hours to drive to the meeting venue; I reached Bantayog in 45 minutes with four nervous ladies as passengers.

Foreign observers witness gunfight, election violence in Tugaya, Lanao del Sur

LANAO DEL SUR-A two-hour gunfight erupted as polling places opened in Tugaya, Lanao del Sur at about nine-thirty in the morning of election day, killing one young woman and wounding two others.

Aslea Panda died four hours later in a hospital in Marawi City while her brother Sobair Panda was also wounded.  Another unidentified victim was treated from gunshot wounds. Relatives of Tugaya mayor Alimatar Guro Alim and rival Mangawan Balindong Pacalna exchanged M60 machine gun fire and rifle-propelled grenades, as well as assault rifle and semi-automatic pistol fire.
