CASIÑO URGES AQUINO-KIRAM DIALOGUE Says it's not too late to initiate talks

Makabayan senatorial bet Teddy Casino with Sulu Sultan Kiram discussing the current Sabah controversy.

Upon visiting Sulu Sultan Jamalul Kiram III today, Makabayan senatorial candidate Teddy Casiño called on President Benigno Aquino III to dialogue with Kiram, saying it is not too late to find a peaceful solution to the Sabah crisis.

"Nandito lang naman sa Pilipinas ang Sulu Sultanate. Maganda makapag-usap sila ng harapan, hindi sagutan sa media. I don't think it will be demeaning for Aquino to talk to Kiram. Afterall, he is the president of the whole Philippines which includes the Sultanate of Sulu," said the three-term congressman.

Casiño said it will be a dialogue between Aquino and one of his bosses. "Diba sabi nya tayo ang boss nya? Eh di kausapin nya yung isa sa mga boss nya. In fact, this should have been done much earlier, even before the present crisis. Nevertheless, it's not too late. President Aquino can initiate talks for the Philippines, Malaysia and the Sultanate of Sulu for a lasting solution to the Philippine claim on Sabah," he said.

"The three parties should work on de-escalating the crisis and reducing casualties. They could also discuss the reported maltreatment of Filipinos in Sabah," Casiño added.

In an earlier media interview, Kiram said he wishes that Aquino "gains wisdom" and that it is unfortunate that he "keeps sending people who don't understand the Sultanate of Sulu." Kiram also said that the President does not fully know the history of Sulu and Sabah.

"For a start, the President can listen to the side of the Sultanate and the history of their Sabah claim," said Casiño.#
