**CPP urges independent investigation into US involvment in Jolo
bombings**

The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) today called on all
democratic organizations, patriots and human rights groups to carry
out an independent investigation into the involvement of American
soldiers in the bombing and air raids in Parang town, Jolo last
Thursday. The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has claimed that
the target was a Jemaah Islamiyah and Abu Sayyaf stronghold.

Military spokesmen have been issuing press releases regaling how the
AFP successfully killed key "terrorist" leaders. However, the CPP
pointed out that there has been no independent verification of
information on the ground.

"All the information has come from the AFP which has been known to
issue distorted and self-serving statements."

"There should be an independent investigation to look into the
involvement of American soldiers belonging to the Joint Special
Operations Task Force-Philippines (JSOTF-P) in the planning, provision
of intelligence and surveillance information, actual execution and
logistical support to the military operation leading to the air
raids," said the CPP.

"Such involvment of US troops violates Philippine national
sovereignty," said the CPP. "Claims that American military troops and
advisers only get involved upon the request of the Aquino regime and
the AFP only makes it worse."

"An independent investigation should look into violations of human
rights, including the indiscriminate bombing and militarization of
nearby communities," added the CPP.
